Time Machine was acting up for me. It would not backup, just be stuck on "Preparing backup". This was happening before I updated to 10.5.3 and after. I had left it that way for a couple of days. Every once in a while spotlight would try to re-index my time machine backup drive, but would never finish that. It looked like the two were fighting for the drive. This is what I did to get mine working again. I turned off time machine then deleted the .Spotlight-v100 directory on the time machine drive. I unmounted then remounted the drive. Spotlight re-indexed the drive, this time it actually got to where it could estimate the remaining time. When Spotlight was done I re-enabled time machine and it got past "Preparing backup". It then proceeded to complete the backup. I feel safe again.

Anna and I decided to watch 7th Heaven since it was the final season. The final episode was Sunday and boy did it go out in a fizzle. Or more like a car hitting a wall at a good cruising speed. In like ten minutes they half-assed the endings to all the plots and sub-plots. After a couple seconds of googling I found other who were disappointed too.

I found this site on digg.com a while back. http://freemacware.com/. It's a blog that is updated frequently with little free programs for the Mac. It seems like every time I check it out there is a cool free program that is actually useful too. It has grown quite a bit and now there are many pages of programs. time I bowled in the multipoint league at Meridian Lanes. Tonight we
got killed by a team with three lefties. The guy I bowled against
shot 799 against my 547 (he shot 299 the last game, could have been
800). Everyone on the right struggled. I've never seen it more lop
sided. So after this week I will have dropped my average another 6
pins, 12 pins in 2 weeks! I gotta get something figured out.

I kinda feel like I'm in college again! Anna and I are in the OCCC library using the internet. She checked her email and surfed the web while I've been taking quizzes about apple products so I can get a certification. I should get it in a couple of days hopefully.

We brought the cat home. She is home sick from my parents place and cries all night long. She'll get over it.

Work is really laid back. Especially since this weekend was a holiday and I guess peoples macs are working just fine. I've got a loaner ibook from work. It's ghetto. The CD-ROM won't stay closed so we have a new one on order. Speaking of ghetto, I'm on an ancient Dell OptiPlex here in the library. It keeps popping up saying it needs updates. What a piece.

Thanks to Anna's Mom for giving us some $green$! We now have a fridge and a dryer that is on the way.

So far work has been pretty laid back. I've fixed powermacs, imacs, and ibooks. The guys I work with are all cool so it won't be a bad job for the interim.

I've been using a mac as my main computer for about 2 weeks. That's all I've got to say about that.

This update is from my new G4 quicksilver 800mhz computer. I got it from a couple who were wanting to get rid of it. They brought it to the store and were wanting to know how they could get some money for it cause it was broken. They said they had taken it to a computer shop where they told them that the logic board was dead. So instead of fixing it they just bought another one. I told them I would take it for $25 and it was done. I did my own tests and found out the only thing wrong was a 512mb dimm and since it also had a 256mb dimm I just took it out and it worked fine. My brother Jim has been running pro tools and Halo on it and it's worked just fine so far. I'm guessing that the people they took it too first were trying to scam them.

7 1/2 later I got a job. I was hired today at Haddock computers. I am a tech/sales person, but more on the tech side. Today I replaced a logic board in and iMac G5 and did some other trouble shooting. There are only 4 other guys there and they are all cool. More later.

Anna and I are moved into our house... well Anna is. My stuff is still at my parents house.

It was a long day at the hospital today. Anna had a routine cat scan and chest x-ray. This time around we had to go to Everet Tower instead of the Physicians Center. It took forever. We were there from 6:45am to noon. We did get to watch a whole movie on A&E, "Manhunter" (Manhunter @ IMDB). It made the wait feel not so long.

Tyler/WebMaestro/Stro called me up tonight. He had some free passes to Land of the Dead. It was an advanced screening that wasn't even full. Unless you are a big zombie movie fan you would probably be better renting it. It had lots of gore with zombies eating guts, fingers, and gnawing on bones. The acting wasn't that bad for a horror flick.

I was walking around looking at all the old junk at our local computer saturday sale and noticed how those Dell Optiplex GX240's look like the xbox 360. It looks like everything is relatively in the same place like the Power button, optical drive and usb ports. The Dell even has that double concave shape that microsoft is so proud of. I guess it is just a PC tho, and everything just fits best this way. Props to Sony for not making their Playstation look like your workstation.

I made it back from Tennesse (minus twizzlers) just fine and in time to go to both the school wide graduation and the law school graduation. The school wide grad was crazy this year. They held it at night and had a fireworks spectacular following the commencement, and spectacular it was.

I am all moved out of my apartment and now back home with the parents. My stuff has filled the garage to a new level. The other night around 3 a.m. the washing machine water line decided to break and flood the floor. My Mom and Dad scrambled to get it shut off and get my things elevated. That's not all, the little kitty Dora made a dash for the back door. She's not an outside kitty so she would run away if we let her out side . So my mom soaking wet was running around in the dirt herding the cat back inside. She said she felt sugar coated and took a shower. My brother and I slept through the whole ordeal. The washer is fixed and my stuff didn't get too wet.

Tomorrow my brother and I set out on a small journey to Murfreesboro Tennessee. It's a 12 hour trip so I am going to help drive it. Back when I had cable and back when there was TechTV, there was The Screen Savers. Since TechTV was taken over by G4 and turned into a video game network, all the people on the show were fired and replaced by "gamers". Now the guys are back with their own podcast. http://leoville.tv/twit-hi. It is published every Sunday and is called TWIT, This Week in Tech. It will probably take a fan of the old show to like this podcast, until they get the show more structure.

I logged into blogger and was happy to see that they have solved the problem of loosing your blog entry by something hi-jacking your browser and navigating away. Now there is a nice "Recover post" link that puts back what I typed. No more "now what did I type?"

I had another job interview today. This one was different than the rest. It was at OUHSC in the College of Nursing. I was interviewed by five people. Four were in the room and another was electronically broadcast there from the Tulsa campus. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Would have been different if I were the only person there and the rest were on TV. I tried to glance at the camera to make the woman feel like I knew she was there.

The next couple of weeks are going to get busy. I need to start moving out of my apartment while making sure Anna gets to all her doctor appointments. In the middle of that I am going to drive to Tennessee with my brother.

Earlier today I had a long post typed up. I clicked the button to spell check it when the Internet Explorer pop-up blocker blocked the speller app. I clicked allow this pop-up then it refreshed the page and erased what I had typed. So watch out when you've filled out a webpage form and that happens, it might get refreshed.
Anyways...

I just got out of an interview at OUHSC. It's the job I talked about in my last post. It was the best so far. The people that interviewed me were very nice and I felt more comfortable with them than I did at the other interviews that I've had. Something a little embarrassing happened. On my resume I have that I created the OU bowling website. It's down now so I didn't put the URL on there. They did a search on the google for ou bowling and they found a link to it which is now a porn site. I guess I should have bought the domain name for another year. I thought it was more funny than embarrassing really.

I'm working on a project for former OU bowling Josh. He started up his own marble business after he graduated. It's doing good business so they keep expanding and he wants a program to track the business and help the shop people layout the vanities, shower walls, window sils, and whatever else they start to make. It's still in the planning stages and it should start to get interesting soon.

Gridiron this weekend was fun. Anna and I danced a little. We took many breathers so she wouldn't pass out. The food was good, the class videos where hilarious, and the band was alright. They didn't play the kind of music our generation knows how to dance to. More people were on the dance floor when the band was taking a break. It was weird, they played Car Wash which transitioned into the Star Wars Theme then into the Cantina song then back to Car Wash. I still don't know what to think about that.

So I heard back from the first interviewer the next day, no go. The second interview went better, I think, but haven't heard back from them either. They needed someone with some serious programming background. Since then I've applied for a couple more jobs at OU Health Science Center. The first time I applied I got rejected but today I got an email saying that the department messed up the requirements and to re-apply. So I did and so far I've made it passed the 2 minute mark that my resume got rejected.

Tonight is Gridiron aka law school dance. Anna is determined to go even though she had a port put back in yesterday. Last time we went they held it at the Omniplex and this year it is at the USPS National Center for Employee Development. Talk about some weird places to have dances. It'll be fun, we get to eat dinner, dance, and hear some live entertainment.

Interview update

The interview wasn't so good. I was too nervous and I probably looked like a kid on his first day of kindergarten. I've already got an email back saying that I'm not the one they want. But there is still hope. While driving home from the first interview I got a call from the same company to interview in a different department. This position will be a programming job and located in Norman. It's today at 3pm. I'm trying to get in a different mind set. I don't feel as nervous, yet.

It's time to start getting serious. I got an email from a company I sent my resume to. After a phone call I now have an interview setup for Tuesday. I'm pretty nervous about it. It sounds like something I would really like to do so I don't want my newbie interviewee skills to blow it for me. Time to buy a new suit.

Lots of bowling this weekend. Jim C. is bowling in a regional so good luck to him, I've got league at 66 bowl and there is PBA bowling on TV. Bowling! Bowling! Bowling!

Tonight Anna is at a Mary Kay party so I'm entertaining myself. I've been watching a new show on Cartoon Network called Robot Chicken. It's a show with stop motion animation that is violent and rude. It took me back to when Tony and I made our own movies. I did a quick google search and found some cool software that makes capturing the animation really simple. So I fired up Anna's webcam and started playing around with it. I got a couple of clips and decided to put them together. Windows movie maker has come along way since I first used it. The weekend was bowling league in Mustang. Didn't go so well, we only won 2 out of eight. I shot 199, 179, 186, then 108, 222, 200. The lane change was murder. There are only two weeks left in the league, it's been fun. Bowling in so many houses I've never bowled in was my favorite part. It's like discovering buried treasure. Other than bowling me and my Dad watched some college hoops.

I got Anna hooked on Yoshi's Island for SNES. She never had a Nintendo growing up so I'm filling that void in her childhood and introducing her to the classics.

This weekend was a double treat both Tony and Jim were in town, how crazy is that! Had some nice dinner, bowled and caught up. The usual fun time with friends.

I've been hooked on a new (new to me) album lately. Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge by My Chemical Romance. They are a punkish band. I never listened to punk till I started playing Burnout3. Some of the tracks were catchy so I checked out the artists other songs. So far this is the only one I really liked. Their song Helena, which the video is featured on the site, is probably my fav.

I played through the single player story of FarCry on the PC. It was a fun game but had a weak ending. I bet if I beat it on a more difficult game play level it would have rewarded me with a better ending. It was a blast getting to the end, so that's better than the game sucking wind the entire time and having an epic ending. No time to go through it again though, I've got new games to conquer.

Friday my Dad and I picked up my Sony TV I bought from a friend. It's an older TV that had a problem, but we got it fixed and now I just need to get it to Norman. Wouldn't be a problem if I wasn't on the second floor.

Sunday I bowled at Southland Bowl in Chickasha for the third and last time, thank god. It's a pretty tough house and turns out we bowled the vacant team for a set, which means we bowled against ourselves. Usually it's not so bad but in a place where everyone shoots 10 pins under their average it's hard. We did alright, 5 outa 8 for this week.

It's weird, every now and then I catch a smell of the subway. I think the smell is stuck in my head still.

Tonight Jim and I along with a couple of his work buddies watched LIVE NBA action! The Knicks aren't as hot as the Heat, they trailed for most of the game. A 17-3 run by the Knicks in the fourth sent the game to overtime. They couldn't hold up, and got picked apart. Along with one namers on the court like Shaq there was Paris, Messier, and Spike. Well not all those are one namers.

This was an awesome way to wrap up the trip. Homeward bound tomorrow.

Monday Feb. 7th
Monday was Jim's last day of vacation. We made our way south through Manhattan, destination Staten Island Ferry. On our way we stopped for lunch at the Dumpling House. I've never had dumplings before but now I'll be craving them back in OKC. Not only is the food impressive here but check out the menu. Five dumplings for a dollar! Jim and I were stuffed on $8.50. Moving on we continued south. It took awhile to get to the ferry terminal, but this place is huge and I am learning that it takes awhile to get anywhere here. On the ferry we caught a good view of Miss Liberty herself. At the end of the line we abandoned ship and got back on. It was funny to see how many other people did the same. For dinner I had some left over pizza from a place down the street from Jim's apartment. It was good, Jim says it's not the city's best. Then it was on to bowling in the Bronx. The players in Jim's league seemed more competitive than bowlers in Oklahoma. It was one of the more different bowling alleys I've seen. Two floors of lanes with the old hand scoreing projectors.

Time for bed. One more day in NYC.

Today! Tuesday Feb. 8th
While Jim was at work I was going to go to a museum, but decided just to chill at his place. Not the coolest thing to do since I'll seldom have another chance to be in New York, but I just wasn't feeling it. Around 6 Jim and I headed to Brooklyn to find the Barcade. They had all the best arcade games from the time when arcades were the only place you could play cutting edge video games. The best thing, they still were a quarter. After we got our old school fix we had dinner and decided we better get out of Brooklyn before the subway closed.

Day 3 in NYC. Today was a relaxed day. We walked so much yesterday. Today my legs told me they were on strike, but that didn't stop me. We walked to a sports bar that had a pretty good deal on wings for lunch. Jim and I agreed that we'd had better. After that it was off to FedEx where Jim had a couple of packages waiting. On the way we walked through central park. It was nice to see trees and grass. The snow was melting making it really muddy. It was fun to see how much mud the park runners had kicked up the backs of their legs. One item was cool, an ice cream maker. We were pretty pumped about ice cream later that night till we found out that the packages were sent back. Jim was outa town when they were delivered, but they didn't hold them long enough. We were pretty bummed, so it took some of the energy out. The rest of the night was pizza and a movie.

Tonight Jim and I rolled out on the town. Sorta. We went to one bar where one of Jim's co-workers friend's friend was playing guitar. Well it turns out that the two lead singers and brass players were THE trumpet player and trombone player from The Late Show, ya know, Conan O'Brian. It was Awesome!!!!!!! Probably the best trumpet and trombone playing I've ever heard. There were only like 30 people packed in this little room. My ears are still ringing. Every song was a jam that had people claping and dancing. It ended too quick, so on the way home Jim and I scored a sish--ka-bob of chicken for the cab ride back. Wicked evening.

The day is over. I made it to Jim's work with no problems. My first New York cab ride was really easy. Jumped in and I was there in no time. After meeting many people at Jim's work we took the subway. I'm glad I don't have to do that alone, it's crazy. it's late, time for bed.

Today I've got my tunes cranked and I'm packing for my trip to New York. This will be the first time for me to go to NYC and ride an airplane by myself. I'm nervous about trying to get to Jim's place. Hopefully it will go smooth.

My brother has come and gone. It was fun seeing him again. He's in to the first person shooters now so my bro, Jason Tarrant and I played some Halo 2 and Ghost Recon 2 . We didn't get to get out and do much as a family cause my Mom was down for the count with a cold.

Last Thursday I bought a TV from a bowler friend. He is getting a new HDTV and this one is kinda messed up so he sold me it cheap. After doing some reseach on the net and poking around inside the set I couldn't find the problem. Tomorrow I try and take it to a Sony repair place in the city, if my Dad's truck is free.

This weekend Anna and I have been hanging out at my parents house. My Bro is in town for a couple days of visiting. The day before he got in we got quite a bit of snow. It was the best kind of snow. Big flakes, it was good snowball snow, and it was off the roads before it got dark. Here are some pics. This weekend was my bowling league and my dream came true! Towards the end of the third game (of six) I noticed my forearm was feeling a little tired. I didn't think it was anything because I had been throwing the ball a little faster than normal. Then we had a 20 minute wait till we started the next three games. In the first frame I threw the ball and was in pain. I had pulled or strained the muscles for my fingers throwing it so hard. By the sixth game I couldn't use my fingers at all to hook the ball! It was like my dream but in my dream it didn't hurt. If I ever dream of winning the lottery I'm buying tickets the next day!

It was another great Christmas. I don't like to ask for things so it is more of a surprise. The only thing I asked for was a toaster oven. I got a nice one, I haven't opened it yet but it looks slick. My dad got me a Radeon 9800 Pro. It plays Doom3 and Half-Life2 smooth. My brother sent me a sweet Xbox travel bag, embroidered logo and all. Other things I got were some tools, a flying saucer, various Sponge Bob items, clothes and gift certificates.

A sigh of relief. I got my grades today and I was pleased. So now I truly feel like a graduate. I ended on a good note with a B average this semester. Today it's off to the grandparents for lunch and visiting. Everyone have a happy holiday. I might post some of the cool stuff I get for Christmas if Santa has me on the good list this year.

I've been relaxing at my parents house the last few days. Last night we went to a new grocery store. It was packed. They had some deals though. I picked up some Mountain Dew Pitch Black for .99 cents. Lemme tell you, it's .99 cents for a reason. I don't think I'll finish the first can. It's weird too, the fizz turns from purple to blue as it fizzes down. I say this is a no go.

PEST INFESTATION!!! Holy $@*^! My apartment is infested with what?!?! Did they mean my apartment specifically? It does say "your apartment". I don't know if it safe to sleep here. I feel crawlies on me. There's nothing here though. I looked in my cabinets and they are clean. I don't even have stuff in some of them thank goodness. Right now I wish it were infested with ice cream sandwiches. I will exterminate those pests.

It looks like Mad Max Dog got his Christmas present early. I think he got it because his fur coat isn't as good as a thick bomber jacket.

A week ago the OU Daily staff met at Coach's in Norman to have a little reunion. These are people who worked on the newspaper during the semester they won the Pacemaker award. Here's a post from the Student Media website...

So far so good. I got an A in crime and deliquency, but the A's will stop there. This week went by pretty fast. In a couple of hours I'm going to lunch with the rest of the guys in the production dept at the paper. It's the first time that I'll have done something outside of work with my department. We never had more than two or three people working there so then it wouldn't be going to lunch with "the production department" but going to lunch with co-workers.

Did anyone see FearFactor last night?!? They were driving a 3rd gen camaro (like mine) under a semi-truck! The object was to see how many times they could go under it within a mile. They entered the underside on the left and exited out the right. Then they had to slow down and enter on the left side again. So now I know if I am ever in a bind in traffic I can just scoot under a big rig. Lemme tell you that camaro looked like it handled like a dream. Now that I'm done I really need to go bowling.

Just got done with my last class. We met for like 20 mins for the prof to tell us what was on the final. Pretty much the exact same class we had last time we met. Check out Bizzel with his orange necklace. You can barely see it. Time to work and study. I think the next three days I'll try and lay low so I can get ready for my capstone final. I want to make sure I graduate.

When I finish working on school stuff I don't feel like doing anything. That's my excuse for not updating. I'm not around the internet as much as I used to be either. This weekend was pretty fun. I had league and watched football. I raked leaves too. It wasn't that bad, I kind of enjoyed it. I had not worked in the yard in awhile and it brought back memories of years past working in the yard with Mom, Dad and Bro.

The biggest thing for school is my capstone presentation on Thursday. Other than that it will be pretty laid back. In my crime and deliquency class we've been watching videos over DRUGS. It's a four video set so it's spread out over 4 classes. My proff said it this way. "Tuesday we'll do marijuana, then Thursday we'll get into some heroine and morphine."

Why do all the cool new games have to come out when school is the busiest. Doom3, Halo2 and now HalfLife2! At least with the PC games the longer I wait the more likely I'll have the hardware to play it on.

I've been helping Jason out with a project he's working on. I am making a little script that surveys the surfers and then displays it for everyone to see. The site is up, but the survey won't be up till Thanksgiving. http://www.workingtitle.tv.

I've really been slacking with the blog updates. It's been a busy week. I've written a paper for my capstone class. I've been studying for a test tomorrow. I have another paper due Friday that I haven't started yet. Tonight, I've been getting ready for a group meeting. Last night while I was working/studying I was helping Jeremy < nerd stuff > setup a server with a soft raid. I had a handy how-to to follow, and I recommend it to others. Vandals hit my parents house last night killing Sponge Bob and Anna's witch. They even got one of my mom's fake pumpkins that you plug in to the wall. I got an email saying that they were found smashed in the driveway. Bummer dude!
